Cheddar Biscuits
Bisquick Alternative
Ingredients
- 2 C buttermilk baking mix (small box equals 2 cups, Bisquick or Jiffy Mix)
- 160 ml milk
- ½ C shredded cheddar cheese
- ¼ C butter
- ½ tsp garlic powder
Directions
- Prep Oven: Preheat oven to 450°F.
- Mix Dough: Combine biscuit mix, milk, and cheese until a soft dough forms; beat vigorously 30 seconds.
- Bake: Drop heaping tablespoonfuls onto an ungreased baking sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes until golden.
- Finish: Mix butter with garlic powder and brush over warm biscuits.
- Serve: Serve warm.
Flour Alternative
Ingredients
- 1 C all-purpose flour
- 1 C cake flour
- 1½ tsp baking powder
- ¾ tsp salt
- ½ tsp garlic powder, divided
- ¼ tsp baking soda
- 4 tbs cold butter, divided
- ½ C finely shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 C buttermilk
- ½ tsp dried parsley flakes
Directions
- Prep Oven: Preheat oven to 425°F.
- Mix Dry: In a large bowl, combine flours, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and half the garlic powder.
- Cut Butter: Cut in 3 tbs butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in cheese, then add buttermilk just until moistened.
- Bake: Drop heaping tablespoonfuls 2" apart onto greased baking sheets. Bake 10-12 minutes until golden.
- Finish: Melt remaining butter, mix with parsley and remaining garlic powder, and brush over warm biscuits.
- Serve: Serve warm.
