Philly Cheese Steak Dip
Ingredients
- 1 Lb beef top sirloin steaks
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1 tbs olive oil
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 1 tbs butter
- 1 red bell pepper
- 1 green bell pepper
- ½ C pepperoncini peppers
- 7 pickled red peppers
- 3 jalapeno peppers
- 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
- ½ lb provolone cheese
- ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper
Directions
- Prep Steak: Slice steak into thick pieces and season generously on both sides with salt and pepper.
- Sear Steak: Heat olive oil in a pan over high heat until smoking. Add steak and sear 3-4 minutes until browned. Flip, reduce heat to medium, and cook 3-4 minutes more until juices appear. Transfer steak to a bowl to cool.
- Cook Onions: Add diced onion, a generous pinch of salt, and butter to the pan drippings. Cook 5-7 minutes, scraping up browned bits, until onions soften.
- Add Peppers: Dice red bell pepper, green bell pepper, pepperoncini, pickled red peppers, and jalapeños (about 1½-2 cups total). Add to onions and cook ~5 minutes until starting to soften.
- Prep Oven: Preheat oven to 400°F.
- Chop Steak: Chop cooled steak into small pieces and return to the bowl with accumulated juices.
- Mix Dip: Add onion-pepper mixture and cream cheese. Grate in provolone, reserving a little for topping. Add Worcestershire and cayenne; mix thoroughly.
- Assemble: Transfer ½ of the dip to a small baking dish and smooth the top. Place dish on a sheet pan and sprinkle with reserved provolone. (Reserve remaining half to bake fresh later.)
- Bake: Bake 20-25 minutes, until bubbling and heated through.
- Broil: Broil ~1 minute until top is browned. Repeat with second batch as needed.
